Gammon Bridge Shuts for 48 Hours
The Gammon Bridge on National Highway 6 in Silchar has been closed for 48 hours starting from 6 PM on December 12.
This is because engineers found a big problem with one of its parts, which is making the bridge unsafe.
The bridge was fixed earlier this year in July after a long repair that cost a lot of money.
Now, the authorities have ordered the bridge to be closed so that they can fix the new problem.
They have also set up different routes for cars and trucks to use while the bridge is closed.
People are allowed to walk across the bridge, but no vehicles are allowed.
The authorities have also put police and emergency teams in place to help with the traffic and keep everyone safe.
This closure is making people worried, especially those who use the bridge every day for work and travel.
Gammon Bridge on National Highway 6 closed for 48 hours starting December 12, 6 PM due to a critical bearing failure.
The bridge was previously repaired in July 2023 at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore.
A noticeable dip of nearly three inches at a joint prompted urgent repair or replacement.
Vehicular movement suspended, but pedestrians are allowed; diversion routes set up for traffic.
Authorities, including DDMA, NHIDCL, SDRF, and CQRT, are managing the closure and ensuring safety.
