ICMR Study: 11.1% of Patients Tested Positive for Infectious Pathogens
Imagine a big health check-up for people in India.
Doctors looked at samples from many people to see if they had tiny germs like viruses.
They found that about 1 out of every 9 people tested had these germs.
This is a little more than the previous few months, which is like a small warning sign for doctors.
The germs they found the most were those that cause the flu, dengue fever, and stomach bugs.
This special testing network helps doctors find sicknesses early so they can try to stop them from spreading to more people.
The network has grown a lot, with many more testing places now than before, to help keep everyone safer.
11.1% of 4.5 lakh patients tested by ICMR labs showed the presence of infectious pathogens.
The infection rate increased from 10.7% in Q1 2025 to 11.5% in Q2 2025.
Top detected pathogens include Influenza A, Dengue virus, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, and Herpes simplex virus (HSV).
The Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) network expanded significantly to 165 labs by 2025.
The ICMR views this network as an early warning system to help prevent future epidemics.
