‘Mahatma Gandhi’ Caller ID Triggers New Cybersecurity Warning

‘Mahatma Gandhi’ Caller ID Triggers New Cybersecurity Warning

Some phones showed an incoming call with the name “Mahatma Gandhi.”

This name does not prove that Mahatma Gandhi or any trusted person is really calling.

Caller ID services can use information supplied by users, and that information can be wrong or old.

A surprising name may make people answer a call they would normally ignore.

Scammers can then pretend to be from a bank, government office, courier company, or another organization.

They may ask for passwords, OTPs, money, or permission to install an app.

If a call seems suspicious, hang up and contact the organization using its official website or phone number.

In India, suspected cyber financial fraud should be reported quickly to 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
