Aditya Birla Group Resilient Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The Aditya Birla Group, a big company with businesses in many countries, has not been greatly affected by recent geopolitical tensions.
The chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla, said that while fuel prices have gone up, the company has been able to pass these costs to customers.
The group has businesses in metals, cement, textiles, chemicals, financial services, and telecom.
They have a big market value and operate in 41 countries.
Birla also talked about challenges in increasing manufacturing, mentioning that environmental concerns can affect project sites.
He recalled a big acquisition by Hindalco, a part of the group, which helped them become a leader in aluminium.
UltraTech Cement, another part of the group, has grown a lot and is now the largest cement company outside China.
Aditya Birla Group largely unaffected by geopolitical tensions, successfully passing on increased fuel costs to customers.
Group operates in 41 countries with a market capitalisation of over US$118 billion.
Challenges in scaling manufacturing share of GDP are not unique to India, with environmental considerations impacting project sites.
Hindalco's acquisition of Novelis in 2007 helped the group become a leader in aluminium.
UltraTech Cement has grown to over 200 million tonnes of capacity, becoming the largest cement company outside China.
