Manjrekar Slams Gill's Selection Over Iyer for Asia Cup
Cricket commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is upset that Shreyas Iyer was not picked for the Asia Cup.
He thinks the selectors made a mistake by choosing another player, Shubman Gill, instead.
Manjrekar feels Iyer should have been chosen based on his great performance in the IPL and that it doesn't make sense to reward a player based on how they performed in a different type of cricket, like test matches.
He also mentions Iyer's past struggles to make the team, and how hard he worked to improve.
Sanjay Manjrekar criticized the selection of Shubman Gill over Shreyas Iyer for the Asia Cup squad.
Manjrekar believes Iyer was wronged by the selectors despite his performance in IPL 2025.
Iyer was a top performer in IPL 2025, with a high average and strike rate.
Manjrekar questioned the selectors' logic of rewarding Test match performance with a T20 spot.
Manjrekar pointed out that Iyer was previously dropped for not prioritizing domestic cricket.
