Darjeeling MLA Appeals to Amit Shah After GNLF Delisting
Imagine a political party called GNLF that has been around for a while.
The government has a list of all the political parties, and GNLF was on that list.
However, because they hadn't participated in any elections recently, the government decided to remove them from the list.
The MLA, Neeraj Zimba, from Darjeeling, is now asking a top government official, Amit Shah, for help.
Zimba reminds Shah that GNLF has supported the BJP in the past and helped them win in the area.
He's worried about this delisting, because it would erase GNLF's history, and potentially hurt the Gorkha community.
The Election Commission delisted GNLF for not contesting elections since 2019.
Darjeeling MLA Neeraj Zimba appealed to Amit Shah regarding the delisting.
Zimba stated that GNLF had supported the BJP in recent elections.
The GNLF was founded in 1980 and played a key role in the Gorkhaland movement.
The EC gave the GNLF a hearing on August 29 to explain its position.
