British Sculptor Creates 20-Foot Statue of Mulayam Singh Yadav
Frances Segelman is an artist from Britain who makes statues of famous people.
She is making a very large bronze statue of Mulayam Singh Yadav, an important Indian politician who has died.
The statue is about 20 feet tall and weighs five tonnes.
Segelman first made a smaller version out of clay.
Modern machines helped turn that small model into 40 larger bronze parts.
The parts will be joined together and given special colors and finishes.
Mulayam’s son Akhilesh and other family members checked that the face looked right.
The statue will be sent to India by plane.
It is planned for a memorial park in Saifai, near where Mulayam was born.
Frances Segelman is nearly finished sculpting a 20-foot bronze statue of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The statue was created from a 3-foot clay maquette and cast in 40 bronze pieces using 3D-printing technology.
It weighs about five tonnes and will be flown from London to India for installation in Saifai.
The memorial is planned for a park near Saifai, where Mulayam Singh Yadav was born and where his last rites took place.
