US Strikes Larak Island, Iran Vows Response Amid Escalation

The United States attacked two Iranian launch systems on Larak Island.

US officials said Iran was preparing to use them to place sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The strait is an important route for ships.

Iran said soldiers and civilians were killed or injured.

Iranian officials promised to respond to the attack.

Iran also said it struck US bases in Jordan, but officials in the United Arab Emirates denied that another reported attack happened there.

Donald Trump later threatened action against Kharg Island, an important Iranian oil terminal.

Reports said the United States may prefer sanctions and a naval blockade instead of a much larger war.
