DMK, VCK Protest Karthigai Deepam Ruling
There was a big argument in the Indian parliament about a religious event called Karthigai Deepam.
Some people from the DMK party said the government was causing trouble by letting Hindus light a lamp on a hill near Madurai.
They even walked out of the parliament in protest.
Another leader, Thirumavalavan from the VCK party, called the Hindu devotees 'terrorists' and wanted a judge to be removed.
The Supreme Court is now looking into the matter because the Tamil Nadu government and the Madras High Court have different opinions about where the lamp should be lit.
The police even stopped the devotees and arrested some people, which made the situation more tense.
DMK members disrupted Lok Sabha proceedings and staged a walkout over the Karthigai Deepam issue.
DMK leader T.R. Baalu accused the BJP of creating communal tensions and criticized Justice G.R. Swaminathan.
BJP leader L. Murugan accused the Tamil Nadu government of denying Hindu devotees their right to worship.
VCK Chief Thol. Thirumavalavan called Hindu devotees 'terrorists' and demanded the impeachment of Justice G.R. Swaminathan.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea filed by the Tamil Nadu government against the Madras High Court order.
