Large-Ticket Personal Loans Surge Over 37% in Q2
In the second quarter of the financial year 2026, personal loans in India grew a lot, especially big loans over ₹10 lakh.
These big loans now make up the largest part of all new loans by value.
Public sector banks (PSU Banks) are leading this growth, while smaller loans are mostly given by non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and FinTechs.
Gold loans also grew very fast.
Experts say this shows that people are borrowing more for homes, cars, and gold, and lenders are being careful with their loans.
Large-ticket personal loans (₹10 lakh and above) grew over 37% in value in Q2 FY26, driven by PSU Banks.
Gold loans were the fastest-growing segment, with a 53% YoY increase in originations value.
PSU Banks increased their market share to 35.5% in Q2 FY26, while private banks and NBFCs saw a decline.
Small-ticket loans (under ₹1 lakh) account for 90% of the originations volume but only 17% of the value.
Home and auto loans rebounded sharply with the start of the festive season, while consumer-durable and two-wheeler loans softened.
