Hundreds of Faculty Posts Vacant Across AIIMS
Many important teaching and doctor jobs at AIIMS hospitals across India are not filled.
This means there aren't enough teachers and doctors to take care of patients and train new doctors.
Some jobs have been empty for many years.
The main reasons are slow hiring processes and not enough incentives for experienced doctors to move to these hospitals.
This problem is worse in newer AIIMS hospitals.
Without fixing these issues, hospitals will keep struggling to provide good care.
AIIMS Delhi has 277 vacant faculty posts out of 1,019 sanctioned, with critical shortages in departments like Anaesthesiology, Cardiology, and Paediatrics.
AIIMS Jodhpur has 30-35% vacancy rates in key departments, with senior positions exceeding 35% vacancies.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar has a 26% overall vacancy rate, with over 53% of professor posts vacant.
AIIMS Bhopal has 80 regular faculty posts vacant as of October 31, 2025, with senior positions significantly understaffed.
Newer AIIMS like Raipur, Nagpur, Jammu, and Deoghar have vacancy rates ranging from 25% to over 40%, with severe shortages in senior roles.
