Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline on December 31
The Indian government has set a deadline of December 31, 2024, for certain taxpayers to link their PAN (Permanent Account Number) with their Aadhaar.
This applies mainly to those who got their PAN using an Aadhaar Enrolment ID before October 1, 2024.
If you don't link them by the deadline, your PAN will become inactive from January 1, 2026, and you might have to pay a ₹1,000 fine.
An inactive PAN can cause problems with banking, tax filing, and getting government benefits.
You can link your PAN and Aadhaar online, via SMS, or by visiting a PAN service center.
The government wants everyone to do this to make tax filing and other services easier.
Taxpayers must link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2024, if they received their PAN based on an Aadhaar Enrolment ID before October 1, 2024.
Failure to link will make the PAN inoperative from January 1, 2026, and incur a ₹1,000 penalty.
An inoperative PAN can disrupt banking transactions, tax filing, and access to government benefits.
Linking can be done online, via SMS, or at authorized PAN service centers.
New PAN applicants have their Aadhaar linked automatically during the application process.
