IIT Delhi PhD Scholar Dies After 45 Days; Abetment FIR Filed
A 40-year-old PhD student at IIT Delhi, named Manish Anand by the institute, was found badly hurt and unconscious in his rented home in Munirka on August 18.
The door was locked from the inside, so neighbours broke it open.
Police took him to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he received care for more than 45 days.
He died there on October 3.
Police said the incident happened away from the IIT Delhi campus.
They said he was alone in the house, and outside CCTV footage supported that account.
On October 4, police registered a case under a law section concerning abetment of suicide.
Police said they did this following Supreme Court directions and a complaint from an IIT security officer.
