Tamil Nadu DMK, TVK Clash Over Vijay’s Delimitation Stand

Tamil Nadu DMK, TVK Clash Over Vijay’s Delimitation Stand

Tamil Nadu is worried that changing electoral boundaries using population numbers could reduce southern states’ power in Parliament.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay asked the Union government to promise that no state would lose its current percentage of representation.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu Assembly had asked for the Lok Sabha to remain at 543 seats and for the existing distribution of seats to continue.

DMK leaders said Vijay sounded different because he did not use the word “freeze” in his speech.

They called this a change or U-turn in the government’s position.

TVK leaders said there was no change and that Vijay was describing a broader way to protect southern states.

AIADMK also supported preserving Tamil Nadu’s 7.18% share.

A BJP legislator disagreed, saying delimitation could increase Tamil Nadu’s share.
