Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha Removed Suddenly
The government suddenly removed Satish Golcha, the top police officer in Delhi, and replaced him with Anurag Kumar.
No clear reason was given, but it might be because of how Golcha handled a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The CJP is protesting near Jantar Mantar, demanding changes in education and the resignation of the Education Minister.
Golcha's removal is unusual because it happened before his retirement and is the second time in a year that the Delhi police chief was replaced mid-term.
The new police chief, Anurag Kumar, used to work in the Intelligence Bureau.
The change happened just before the start of the monsoon session of Parliament, when the CJP plans to march to Parliament to press their demands.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha was abruptly removed and replaced by Anurag Kumar.
The reason for Golcha's removal is unspecified but may be related to his handling of the CJP protest.
The CJP is protesting near Jantar Mantar, demanding education reforms and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Golcha's removal is the second mid-tenure shunting of the Delhi police chief within a year.
Anurag Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, was appointed more than nine months before Golcha's scheduled retirement.
