RBI Proposes Weekly Credit Information Reports
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has suggested that companies that give and keep credit information should update their reports every week instead of every two weeks.
This is to make sure the information is more up-to-date and helps banks and other lenders make better decisions.
The updates will include new accounts and any changes in how accounts are classified.
The RBI also wants these companies to use the same rules to check the data they receive to reduce errors.
This new rule will start on April 1, 2026.
RBI proposes weekly submission of credit information reports by credit institutions and credit information companies.
Current updates are on a fortnightly basis, but the new proposal suggests weekly updates on the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, and last day of each month.
Weekly submissions will include incremental data such as new accounts and changes in asset classification.
Full credit information records must be submitted within three days of the next month.
The RBI also proposes uniform data acceptance validation rules to reduce instances of data rejection, with the new directions effective from April 01, 2026.
