Karnataka Court Upholds Dasara Invitation to Banu Mushtaq
The Karnataka High Court ruled that inviting Banu Mushtaq to open the Mysuru Dasara festival was okay.
Some people, like Pratap Simha, tried to stop her, but the court said it was allowed because the event is sponsored by the state.
The court decided that inviting someone of a different faith to a state-sponsored event doesn't violate anyone's rights.
The court said that simply because someone has an opinion different from another person's should not lead to such an action.
The court also noted that people have freedom to practice their religion, but not to prevent someone else's invitation to a festival.
Karnataka High Court dismissed petitions concerning Banu Mushtaq's Dasara invitation.
The petitions were filed by Pratap Simha and others.
Petitioners argued Mushtaq's invitation violated their religious rights.
The court stated there was no violation of constitutional rights.
Advocate General argued that the state sponsored function could have no discrimination.
