Latha Rajinikanth launches 'Makkal Medai' for citizen-led social welfare
A lady named Latha Rajinikanth started a new group called 'Makkal Medai', which means 'people's platform'.
The group helps people in neighborhoods work together to make their communities better.
It wants to clean up trash, fix ponds, help schools, and protect farms.
This September, volunteers will pick up plastic while jogging in 50 places in the city of Chennai.
The group also wants to clean and restore 7,000 ponds in Tamil Nadu within one year.
One project called 'Cow Care India' is already taking care of more than 15,000 cows with the help of 22 cow shelters.
Another plan called 'Sports Super League' will help talented children in villages play sports.
There is also a new way of teaching called 'TASKS' that was studied for 34 years.
Latha said that patriotism means people coming together without divisions to work for their own towns and villages.
Her husband, the famous actor Rajinikanth, supports the new project.
Film producer and educationist Latha Rajinikanth formally launched 'Makkal Medai' in Chennai on Friday, a grassroots Citizens' Platform for community-driven social welfare.
The initiative, operating under the Bharat Seva and Dhaya Foundation umbrella, prioritises waste management, water body restoration, education, and rural agricultural preservation.
A large-scale 'plogging' (picking up plastic while jogging) and clean-up drive across 50 locations in Chennai is scheduled for September.
The platform targets the desilting and restoration of 7,000 ponds across various districts in Tamil Nadu within a year, and its 'Cow Care India' project cares for over 15,000 cattle across 22 goshalas.
Upcoming initiatives include a 'Sports Super League' to nurture rural athletic talent and the official rollout of 'TASKS,' an independent educational model researched and developed over 34 years.
