Indian Stock Markets Fall for Second Day
On December 9, 2025, the Indian stock markets, Sensex and Nifty 50, fell for the second day in a row.
The Sensex opened at 84,742.87 and closed at 84,465.38, losing 637.31 points or 0.75%.
The Nifty 50 opened at 25,899.55 and closed at 25,754.90, losing 205.65 points or 0.79%.
Investors were being careful because of weak global cues and the upcoming US Federal Reserve's policy decision.
Some companies like Asian Paints and Jio Financial Services lost a lot of value, while a few like Titan Company and Bharti Airtel gained.
Foreign investors were also selling stocks, which added to the drop.
The market was generally very weak, with only a few stocks going up.
The rupee also faced pressure due to capital flight and rising crude oil prices, but it gained 17 paise to 89.88 against the US dollar.
The BSE Sensex dropped by 637.31 points, or 0.75%, to close at 84,465.38.
The Nifty 50 index lost 205.65 points, or 0.79%, to close at 25,754.90.
Major losers included Asian Paints, Jio Financial Services, Trent, Max Healthcare, and Shriram Finance.
Only two stocks—Titan Company and Bharti Airtel—were gainers among the Nifty50 constituents.
Investors turned defensive ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision and due to weak global cues.
