Centre Assures High Court of Rajoana’s PGIMER Treatment

Balwant Singh Rajoana is a prisoner who needed an eye operation for cataracts.

He asked to receive the operation at a hospital in Patiala and pay for it himself.

His request was taken to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Centre and Chandigarh administration said he would instead be taken to PGIMER Chandigarh.

PGIMER has a department that treats eye problems.

After this assurance, the court closed the case.

Rajoana has been in custody for more than 30 years.

He is a death-row convict in the 1995 Beant Singh assassination case.
