Dubai Gold Import Rules for Indian Travelers in 2025
Imagine you're traveling from Dubai back to India with gold.
There are special rules about how much gold you can bring without paying extra fees.
For men, it's a small amount like 20 grams, and for women, it's double that, 40 grams.
This is called the duty-free limit.
If you've stayed outside India for a long time, like over six months, you can bring up to 1 kilogram of gold, but you'll have to pay a tax called customs duty on it.
You need to keep all your shopping papers, like receipts, to show where you bought the gold and how pure it is.
If you bring more gold than allowed, you must tell the customs officers when you arrive in India by going to the 'Red Channel.'
If you don't tell them, your gold could be taken away and you might have to pay a fine.
Even the gold you wear needs to be considered, especially if it's newly bought.
Indian travelers can bring up to 1 kg of gold after paying customs duty, provided they have stayed abroad for over six months.
Men have a duty-free limit of 20 grams (valued up to ₹50,000) for gold coins or bars.
Women have a duty-free limit of 40 grams (valued up to ₹1 lakh) for jewellery, bars, or coins.
Children under 15 years can bring up to 40 grams of ornaments or gifts, requiring identity and relationship proof.
Gold exceeding duty-free limits must be declared in the Red Channel at the airport, accompanied by purchase invoices and receipts, with customs duty paid at applicable rates (ranging from 3% to 10% based on quantity and type).
