Justice Bhuyan Says Questions Cannot Bring Student Punishment

Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said students should not get in trouble just for asking questions.

He explained that people in a democracy will not always think the same way.

Different opinions and beliefs should be accepted within the Constitution’s rules.

He said people should not have to give up their individuality.

Asking questions and disagreeing are important parts of a free society.

Dissent means expressing a different opinion from the majority.

Without room for dissent, freedom of speech would not be meaningful.

He said intolerance does not fit with constitutional values.
