Assam Govt. Extends Mising Council Term for One Year
The Assam government has decided to keep the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) in power for another year.
This is because they are still working on the elections, particularly redrawing the voting areas.
The group in charge of elections is updating the voter lists.
The original term of the council ended in February, but they had a six-month extension.
Since the elections aren't ready yet, the government has extended the term again.
A temporary committee, including a chairman and other members, will manage things until the elections finally happen.
Assam government extends the term of the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) by one year.
The extension is due to incomplete electoral processes following a delimitation exercise.
The Assam State Election Commission is updating electoral rolls for the MAC election.
The previous MAC term expired on February 10, 2024, with an initial six-month extension.
An interim committee for the MAC has been formed, including Sunil Pegu as Chairman.
