Chennai Corporation Approves Land Ownership for Residents
The Chennai Corporation is allowing people who have been living on government land for over 10 years to get official ownership papers.
This means they can officially own the land their houses are on, as long as the land isn't a restricted area like a burial ground.
The Corporation is working with the government to make this happen for many neighborhoods.
Chennai Corporation will issue patta for residents who built homes on unobjectionable government land.
The policy applies to properties built at least 10 years ago.
The State government relaxed norms for regularizing encroachments.
The areas included are within 32 km of Chennai city.
Residents are expected to receive patta shortly.
