Air India Nears $1.1 Billion Owner Support Amid Losses

Air India is losing a lot of money and may receive about $1.1 billion from its owners.

Tata Sons owns most of the airline, and Singapore Airlines owns the rest.

The money would be provided according to how much of the airline each owner owns.

Air India reported losses of more than Rs 22,000 crore for the year ending March 31, 2026.

Several difficult events hurt the airline during the year.

These included a deadly Boeing 787 crash, limits on flying through Pakistani airspace, and conflict-related travel disruptions in West Asia.

Higher fuel costs also added pressure.

The airline’s incoming chief executive, Tewolde Gebremariam, wants to expand cargo services and improve aircraft maintenance.

The owners say they will continue supporting Air India despite concerns about its losses.
