Surat Metro Trains Bring Diamond-Inspired Design to City’s Identity
Surat is known as India’s Diamond City.
Its new metro is being designed to reflect that identity.
The trains have patterns inspired by the shapes and cuts of diamonds.
They also have red doors, beige floors and silver handrails.
Diamond designs are included in stations and other parts of the project too.
Dream City Metro Station is shaped like a diamond.
Some stations are being built deep underground, and the metro will use a third rail for power instead of overhead poles.
The project also changed a route to protect an old tree and planted more than 3,000 trees at its depot.
