He began performing in theatre and made his film debut in 1978.

Some of his best-known films included “Parinda,” “Krantiveer” and “Welcome.”

He won three National Film Awards for his acting.

He also directed a film and served with an Army Quick Reaction Team during the Kargil conflict.

Away from films, he helped rural communities through the Naam Foundation.

He died at his home in Goa at the age of 75.
