BNP Thanks PM Modi for Khaleda Zia Condolences

Begum Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), passed away at the age of 80 on December 30, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India expressed his condolences on her death, recalling their meeting in 2015 and her contributions to Bangladesh-India relations.

The BNP appreciated Modi's message and highlighted Zia's legacy in fostering ties between the two countries.

Zia was the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Bangladesh and her passing was confirmed by the BNP.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India at Zia's funeral and handed over a letter of condolence from PM Modi to BNP leader Tarique Rahman.

The relations between India and Bangladesh have been strained recently due to concerns over attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
