Indian Football Crisis: ISL Delays and Financial Struggles
Indian football is facing big problems.
The Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League, which are big football tournaments in India, were delayed because the people in charge, called the All India Football Federation (AIFF), couldn't find a partner to help with money and organization.
This has made players like Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, and Sandesh Jhingan very worried.
They even made a video asking for help because they feel like the sport is in danger.
The AIFF has been having a lot of problems, like not being able to make decisions, changing coaches too often, and not having enough money to support the sport.
Some people blame the current president, Kalyan Chaubey, for these problems.
The national team hasn't been doing well either, and they haven't won a match since November 2023.
The AIFF has a big plan called 'Vision 2047' to make Indian football better, but many people think they need to do more right now to help the players and the sport.
Now, the owner of Bengaluru FC, Parth Jindal, is asking players to make sacrifices, like taking less money, to help the clubs survive because the clubs are struggling with money problems.
The ISL and I-League will start on 14 February 2026, following delays due to AIFF's failure to secure a commercial partner.
Indian football players released a video urging FIFA to intervene, expressing concerns about the future of the sport.
The AIFF has been facing administrative paralysis, with issues like frequent changes in leadership and failure to secure marketing partners.
The national football team's performance has suffered, with their last competitive win in November 2023 against the Maldives.
Critics blame AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey for the federation's problems, citing instability and poor decision-making.
