Delhi Court Remands 15 in Protest Case
In Delhi, a court decided what to do with 15 people who were arrested.
Two of them, Vagisha and Ayesha, will be with the police for one day.
The other 13 will be in judicial custody for seven days.
They were arrested because they were part of a protest and shouted slogans supporting a man named Madvi Hidma, who was killed in a fight with the police.
The court said the arrests were legal and didn't let seven of them go free.
The police also got permission to arrest six women and two men after sunset.
The lawyers for Vagisha and Ayesha said they weren't told why their clients were arrested and that their parents weren't informed.
The police found new videos showing some of the accused at a meeting of a group that supports Naxalites.
They want to keep the accused in custody to question them about this.
The defense says the police don't have enough proof and keeping the students in jail will hurt their studies and careers.
The court will decide more on Monday.
Delhi's Patiala House Court remanded 2 accused to 1-day police custody and 13 to 7-day judicial custody.
The arrests are linked to a protest and slogans in support of Maoist Madvi Hidma.
The court rejected an application seeking the release of seven accused.
Delhi Police were allowed to arrest six women and two men after sunset.
The counsel for Vagisha and Ayesha opposed their police custody, citing lack of arrest grounds and parental notification.
