Ramaphosa Urges ANC to Fix Local Government Services
President Cyril Ramaphosa told his party, the African National Congress (ANC), that they need to fix local government services like water, roads, and electricity.
He said this at a big celebration for the ANC's 114th birthday.
The ANC has been doing poorly in local elections because people are upset about bad services.
Ramaphosa promised to give a lot of money to improve water and power.
He also said that even though the country is doing better, many young people are unhappy and question if the government works for them.
The ANC used to be very popular, but now they need to do better to keep people's support.
President Cyril Ramaphosa urged the ANC to fix local government services ahead of the 2026 elections.
The ANC's performance in local elections has been declining, with less than half of the votes in 2021.
Ramaphosa pledged 54 billion rand ($3.28 billion) for water and power infrastructure.
Chronic power shortages have ended, but some municipalities still experience local outages.
High unemployment and youth dissatisfaction pose challenges to the ANC's popularity.
