AgriGold victims urge govt to acquire Hai-Land, Yarada projects
A company called AgriGold took money from many families in Andhra Pradesh and promised to give it back later.
But the money disappeared, and this became known as the AgriGold scam.
The scam has affected lakhs of families for more than 12 years.
People who lost money formed a group called the AgriGold Customers and Agents Welfare Association.
The group gave the state government a list of 11 requests, including buying the Hai-Land and Yarada tourism projects to help pay people back.
They also asked the government to sell about 6,500 acres of AgriGold land in smaller pieces so more buyers could take part.
The government is starting a special court on August 15 to handle the scam, which the group welcomed.
The group says more than 600 people in Andhra Pradesh and over 1,500 people in seven states died from stress or heart attacks because of the fraud.
The government has promised to try to repay all depositors within six months, and the group says it will keep working until every rupee is returned.
AgriGold Customers and Agents Welfare Association submitted an 11-demand memorandum to the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Sub-Committee urging acquisition of Hai-Land and Yarada tourism projects for asset recovery.
The association asked that nearly 6,500 acres of AgriGold land be auctioned in smaller parcels of 2, 5 and 10 acres to attract more bidders and fetch higher prices.
Victims welcomed the government's decision to establish a Special Court from August 15 to expedite justice.
The association alleged the fraud caused over 600 deaths in Andhra Pradesh and more than 1,500 across seven states, and sought ex gratia for eligible families.
It also demanded seizure of benami properties, recovery of illegally sold assets, a dedicated CID wing, and extending Special Court coverage to Abhaya Gold and Akshaya Gold.
