Supreme Court Rejects Personal Morality in Bail Decisions

The Supreme Court considered a case about whether a person accused of sexual assault should receive bail.

Bail means allowing an accused person to leave jail while the trial continues, under certain rules.

A lower court had refused bail partly because it was worried about social order and the family’s morals.

The Supreme Court said judges should not use their personal ideas about morality to decide bail.

Instead, courts should apply legal principles to the case.

The accused had already spent more than a year in custody.

The trial was expected to take more time.

Because of this, the Supreme Court ordered that bail should be considered appropriate.

A special court will set the conditions for the accused’s release.
