Kuppam Branch Canal Expands Krishna Water Reach Across Tanks
Krishna waters have reached Kuppam through a new branch canal system.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a traditional water ceremony to mark the occasion.
The canal carries water from the Punganur Branch Canal to a tank near Kuppam.
Officials say the canal helped fill 133 tanks last year.
The government now wants to connect 418 smaller tanks to the canal.
These tanks could provide more water for farms and drinking needs.
Officials also say the water has improved groundwater levels.
A new reservoir is being proposed to help industries in Gudupalle mandal.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu marked the arrival of Krishna waters through the Kuppam Branch Canal at Gundisettipalli.
The 131.200-km canal connects the Punganur Branch Canal to Paramasamudram tank near Kuppam.
The canal was designed to serve 110 minor irrigation tanks and stabilise an ayacut of 6,300 acres.
The government plans to supply water to 418 minor irrigation tanks at an estimated cost of Rs 439.640 crore.
