Asian Markets Decline Amid Yen Strength
On Monday, Asian markets mostly went down.
Japan's Nikkei index fell a lot because the yen got stronger against the US dollar, which hurts Japanese companies that sell things abroad.
South Korea's and Hong Kong's markets also dropped a little, but China's market went up slightly.
Markets in Australia, New Zealand, India, and Indonesia were closed.
In the US, the S&P 500 and Dow Jones futures went down a bit because of uncertainty about tariffs.
US President Donald Trump threatened to put high tariffs on goods from Canada if it makes a trade deal with China.
Canada said it doesn't plan to do that.
Gold prices went up a lot because people are worried about geopolitical risks and are buying gold as a safe investment.
Asian markets mostly declined on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 dropping 1.9% due to a stronger yen.
The yen surged to 154.26 per dollar, impacting Japanese exporters like Toyota Motor Corp.
South Korea's Kospi and Hong Kong's Hang Seng indices also fell, while China's Shanghai Composite rose slightly.
US futures edged lower due to uncertainty over US tariff policies and geopolitical tensions.
Gold prices surged past $5,000 an ounce for the first time, driven by safe-haven demand and a weak US dollar.
