Vedanta to Consider Legal Action Against Viceroy Research
Vedanta, a big company, might sue a research firm called Viceroy.
Viceroy wrote a report saying Vedanta wasn't managing its money well.
However, a former top judge, Justice Chandrachud, said Viceroy's report isn't reliable because of the firm's past, the lack of expertise of its researchers, and when it released the report.
Justice Chandrachud thinks Vedanta can take legal action because Viceroy’s report could be seen as defaming Vedanta.
The report was published around the same time that Vedanta was refinancing its loans and planning to split into different businesses.
This made it look like Viceroy was trying to manipulate the stock market to profit from it.
Vedanta Limited may take legal action against Viceroy Research.
Former CJI DY Chandrachud stated Viceroy's report is non-credible.
Chandrachud cited Viceroy's history, dubious researchers, and timing.
Vedanta's options include defamation suits and SEBI complaints.
The report accused Vedanta of financial misgovernance.
