Polish Filmmaker Connects Bengali and Polish Cinema Through Social Issues
A filmmaker from Poland, Michal Kwiencinaki, visited Kolkata for a film festival.
He noticed that movies from Bengal and Poland are similar in important ways.
Both kinds of movies focus on telling stories about real-life social problems and deeper ideas, rather than just trying to make a lot of money like some commercial films.
He explained that Bengali filmmakers often choose to make movies about local issues and don't always need big budgets.
Polish movies are also like this, being more thoughtful and less focused on just being entertainment for profit.
Because of this, he feels Bengali and Polish cinema have a special connection.
Polish filmmaker Michal Kwiencinaki sees a connection between Bengali and Polish cinema due to their focus on social issues.
He stated that Bengali cinema is less commercial and more focused on thought-provoking, local subjects compared to Bollywood.
Kwiencinaki praised Bengali filmmakers for their serious approach to difficult themes and expressive filmmaking.
Poland is the focus country at the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival, with 19 films being showcased.
