India urged to keep buying Russian oil amid US tariff threat
The United States Senate is almost ready to let President Trump put very high taxes on goods that come from countries that buy Russian oil.
India is one of those countries.
A group called GTRI says India should keep buying Russian oil even if the U.S. wants to punish them.
They think India should not stop buying Russian oil just because the U.S. is pressuring them.
The U.S. wants to use these taxes to make Russia pay for its actions.
India might face higher costs if it stops buying Russian oil.
The Senate is close to passing the law.
The law would let the U.S. charge up to 100% extra on those imports.
US Senate is close to allowing President Trump to impose up to 100% tariffs on imports from countries buying Russian oil.
India is among the countries that would be affected by these tariffs.
GTRI recommends that India should not stop buying Russian oil because of U.S. pressure.
The recommendation follows the Senate’s progress on the tariff legislation.
The tariffs would target imports of Russian oil and gas.
