US Military Transport Plane Lands in Moscow Amid Uncertainty
A large US military plane flew to Moscow on Tuesday.
It came from Riga, a city in Latvia.
A flight-tracking service recorded the trip.
The Kremlin said it did not know why the plane had arrived.
Reporters could not confirm whether people or cargo were onboard.
The plane had earlier traveled from a US military base near Washington, DC, to Riga.
Some reports suggested it might be connected to diplomacy or a prisoner exchange.
However, there was no confirmation of what the flight was for.
A US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport on Tuesday.
Flightradar24 data showed the aircraft flew directly from Riga, Latvia, arriving around 0700 GMT.
The aircraft carried the US-registered tail number 07-7181 and had previously flown from Camp Springs, Maryland, to Riga.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin had no information about the plane or planned US administration meetings.
The aircraft’s passengers, cargo and purpose were not independently verified, though reports raised diplomatic and prisoner-exchange theories.
