Chief Justice Urges Expert, Timely Resolution of Tech Disputes

Chief Justice Urges Expert, Timely Resolution of Tech Disputes

Some disputes about phones, television, airports and computers are difficult because they involve complicated technology and rules.

Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh said these cases should be decided quickly by people with both legal and technical knowledge.

Tribunals such as TDSAT help handle these specialised disputes.

However, tribunals must still follow the Constitution and can be reviewed by higher courts.

Long legal cases can create uncertainty for businesses and consumers.

TDSAT also hears appeals in some cyber-related cases.

Claims up to ₹5 crore are first handled by designated officers under the Information Technology Act.

Larger claims go to competent civil courts.

The speakers also supported mediation, voluntary settlements and better public awareness of the available legal processes.
