Protesters Block NH-66 in Kasaragod Over Toll Collection
A big group of people, led by a local leader named A K M Ashraf, protested on a national highway in Kerala called NH-66.
They were upset because a new toll booth started collecting money from drivers.
The protesters think the toll booth is too close to another one, which breaks the rules.
They also said the matter is still in court, so the toll collection should wait.
The police had to stop the protest and arrested some people, including the leader.
After that, the traffic started moving again, and the toll collection continued.
The protesters had already tried to stop the toll booth last year but lost in court and are now appealing.
Over 500 protesters led by Manjeshwar MLA A K M Ashraf staged a sit-in on NH-66 near Arikady toll plaza.
Protesters demand the withdrawal of toll collection, citing violation of NHAI guidelines and a pending court case.
Toll plaza operators state the booth is temporary due to incomplete construction at the planned location.
Police arrested protesters, including MLA Ashraf, and resumed traffic by around 10 am.
Toll collection has commenced despite the protest, and police security for the toll plaza continues.
