Trump’s Legacy Push Raises Republican Concerns Ahead of Midterms
President Trump is thinking a lot about how people will remember him.
He shared a picture saying he was the greatest president.
His advisers want him to talk more about the economy because that is important to many voters.
Some Republicans worry that he is spending too much attention on buildings, symbols and personal praise.
They also want his political fundraising group to spend more money helping Republican candidates.
Trump believes his tax cuts and leadership can motivate Republicans to vote.
He plans to put himself in television advertisements and tell supporters to act as if he is on the ballot.
Critics say disputes abroad and controversial actions could hurt Republicans in the midterm elections.
Trump’s aides say his main goal is still to bring prosperity and peace to the United States.
Trump has increasingly focused on how history will remember him, including sharing an AI-generated ranking that placed him above George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Aides say Trump is pursuing a legacy through White House construction projects, branded government items, a presidential library and a new “Presidential Walk of Fame.”
Republicans worry his focus on personal recognition and controversies is distracting from the economy and hurting candidates preparing for the midterm elections.
Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. has raised more than $400 million but has not yet spent it broadly on the midterms, frustrating some Republicans.
Trump plans to remain central to Republican campaigning, while critics argue his foreign-policy disputes, economic pressures and provocative actions could damage the party.
