NKDA to relocate hawkers to new buildings and develop orchards
The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) is moving about 290 street vendors to new buildings.
These new buildings are being finished in two areas: Tarulia and near Sukhobristi.
Once the vendors move, the temporary market spots they used to occupy will be turned into mango orchards.
This will bring more greenery to the area.
NKDA has already been moving vendors to organized spaces for a few years, and has previously allocated spots to 260 vendors.
They aim to relocate a total of 1,887 registered vendors, with around 1,500 already settled.
NKDA is set to rehabilitate approximately 290 hawkers to new buildings in New Town.
Two new buildings are being prepared at Tarulia and near Sukhobristi housing complex.
The temporary market spaces will be converted into mango orchards after relocation.
A total of 205 hawkers will be shifted from the temporary market near Sukhobristi to the new complex.
NKDA has been relocating hawkers to designated spaces in New Town for several years.
