Thousands join 'Jail Bharo' stir as 12,000 detained in Tripura
I will tell you about a big, peaceful protest in a part of India called Tripura.
On Monday, many people — farmers, women, and other workers — marched in the streets.
They did something called a 'Jail Bharo' protest, which means 'fill the jails.'
By asking to be taken to jail, they wanted to show the government that they were very upset.
The police took more than 12,000 people away, but let them all go later.
The people said farmers are not getting fair prices for their crops and have too much debt.
They also said there is no fertiliser, seed, pesticide or water for irrigation.
The leaders warned that if the government does not change, even bigger protests will happen.
The police said the protest was peaceful and nothing bad happened.
Thousands, including women, farmers, agricultural labourers and Anganwadi workers, joined the 'Jail Bharo Andolan' across Tripura on Monday.
Police detained more than 12,000 protesters at 21 locations across all eight districts; all were later released.
The stir was jointly called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and central trade unions over an 11-point charter of demands.
CPI (M) leaders said over 30,000 people took part, while SKM convenor Pabitra Kar said the agitation was held at more than 1,000 places nationwide.
Manik Sarkar called the BJP-led NDA government 'autocratic, dictatorial, anti-constitutional and anti-people' and warned of bigger agitations.
