India Employer Gift Tax-Free Limit Rises to ₹15,000

India Employer Gift Tax-Free Limit Rises to ₹15,000

A new tax rule changes how some gifts from employers are treated.

Starting 1 April 2026, an employee can receive qualifying gifts and vouchers worth less than ₹15,000 in a tax year without the benefit being valued for tax.

This limit applies to the whole year, not separately to birthdays, festivals or work anniversaries.

Digital gift cards and shopping vouchers can qualify under the provision.

Cash gifts and gifts that can be changed into money are taxable.

Employers must add up qualifying gifts given to each employee.

They must also report any taxable benefit through payroll and the employee’s Form 130.

Employees should check these details when filing their income-tax return.
