OECD Warns of Economic Risk in Peru Amidst Political Uncertainty
Imagine Peru as a country trying to earn more money.
A group of experts, the OECD, made suggestions to help.
They say that Peru needs to fix some things because of uncertain politics.
The OECD believes the country's economy could face some slowdown.
To make sure Peru keeps doing well, the OECD says it needs to improve people's skills, help small businesses get loans, and become better at dealing with climate change.
The experts also want Peru to spend money wisely.
They think Peru can still grow, but it might be a little slower than what the government hopes for.
In April of next year, the country will have elections that the experts say may cause more difficulties in the economy.
The OECD recommends Peru implement economic measures due to political uncertainty ahead of the 2026 elections.
The OECD projects GDP growth of 2.8% this year and 2.6% in 2026 for Peru.
The OECD expects inflation to fall within the central bank’s target range of 1% to 3%.
Peru has shown resilience, growing at an average annual rate of 3.7% from 2008 to 2024.
The OECD urged Peru to restore fiscal compliance and invest in infrastructure and education.
