Meta India Head Faces Police Complaint Over AI‑Generated Modi Videos
A man named Arun Srinivas runs Meta in India.
Some people say he helped share fake videos of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Facebook and Instagram.
The police in Hyderabad made a complaint against him.
The videos were made with computer tricks and were shown during protests about a school exam.
The government is also looking at Meta because it briefly hid a real video from Modi.
Meta hasn’t said much yet, but a company worker talked to the police about how they try to stop fake videos.
The police are still checking who made the videos and if Meta did enough to stop them.
This is part of a bigger check on big social media companies in India.
Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police filed a complaint against Meta India head Arun Srinivas over AI‑generated videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook and Instagram.
The videos, allegedly manipulated and some showing Modi with former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and U.S. President Donald Trump, were linked to the Cockroach Janta Party protests over the NEET paper leak.
The complaint is part of broader scrutiny of Meta, which also faced a government summons after briefly restricting a Modi selfie‑video post during the same protests.
Meta has not yet commented on the FIR, but a representative briefed investigators on its content‑moderation systems.
The investigation is preliminary, examining the origin of the videos, the accounts that shared them, and whether Meta’s safety measures were effective.
