Sports Ministry Forms Committee to Revive Hockey India League

The Sports Ministry has created a group of seven people to help bring the Hockey India League back on a stronger footing.

The group includes people from Hockey India, the league’s franchises and the ministry.

Three franchise representatives named are Alok Sanghi, Mahesh Bhupathi and Divyanshu Singh.

The group will look at how the league is run and how it can manage its finances.

It must report its recommendations to the ministry within a set time.

The league returned in 2024 after being away for seven years.

Its next season is uncertain because franchises want clearer plans and costs have risen.

Women’s hockey players have also appealed publicly to save the women’s league from being discontinued.
