DoPT Forwards Pre-2026 Pension Demands to Expenditure Department

DoPT Forwards Pre-2026 Pension Demands to Expenditure Department

Two pensioner and employee groups want the pensions of people who retired before January 1, 2026, to be revised under the 8th Pay Commission.

The Department of Personnel and Training has sent their request to the Department of Expenditure.

This means the request is now being considered by another government department.

It does not mean the pension increase has been approved.

The groups want the 8th Commission’s rules to clearly include people who already retired.

The current rules mention some pension matters but do not specifically name retirees from before 2026.

In 1985, the government changed an earlier Pay Commission’s rules to include both past and future pensioners.

That history supports the demand but does not force the government to make the same change now.

The next important step is whether the Department of Expenditure recommends changing the 8th Commission’s mandate.
