Delhi High Court Quashes I-T Notices Against NDTV Founders
The Delhi High Court has decided to stop a tax case against Prannoy and Radhika Roy, who started NDTV.
The court said the tax department should not have tried to re-examine the same issue again.
The court also made the tax department pay a small fine to the Roys.
The tax department had said the Roys gave loans without interest to a company they owned, but the court did not agree with this.
This is not the first time the court has stopped such cases against the Roys.
The court mentioned that no amount of cost can be treated as enough for these cases, but they had to impose some fine.
The detailed judgement is yet to be made public.
Delhi High Court quashed income-tax reassessment notices issued to Prannoy and Radhika Roy in 2016.
The court imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the I-T department, with Rs 1 lakh each to be paid to the Roys.
The I-T department had alleged that the Roys advanced interest-free loans of Rs 403.85 crore to RRPR Holding Pvt Ltd.
The Roys argued that the reassessment proceedings were a 'change of opinion' and not permissible under the law.
The court had previously quashed similar reassessment proceedings in a separate case involving the Roys in September 2024.
